Tuesday tid-bits

Proof that you are never too old to be a big baby: Pop-Rocks and cartwheels still freak me out.

Which one of you works at Philips?

truemomconfessions.com - It depresses me. I think that the point is to stop judging each other as mothers, as women, and to be used as an outlet. To normalize our feelings and see that we are OK. Because, we all know that in order to feel alright about our choices, other people need to be making the same ones… right? It doesn’t, in any way, make me feel superior as a mother, or as a woman, it doesn’t make me feel normal… it just makes me feel like shit. Some of the confessions are things that I don’t feel should be normalized.

While looking for a birthday card for my BFF today I saw one that said something like, you make talking about bills, life, kids, etc. FUN. Those are indeed some of my sentiments, so I thought it might be a good one… but then I opened it up and it said, Happy Mother’s Day, Friend. And well, although I really like her a lot, I do not feel compelled to buy her a Mother’s Day card. Because, you know, she didn’t give BIRTH to me. Is it just me, or is Hallmark stretching a bit, here?

My son, he’s got a little girlfriend. He’s been telling me for days about Gabriella, and I’ve been saying you do NOT have a girlfriend. Tell this little girl that you are not allowed to have a GIRLFRIEND. Then I saw them playing together today at school. They hold hands. They go under the big toy together. He is FOUR. He wants to know if when he’s five, if that makes him big enough to have sleep overs with her. Holy shit. Not prepared for that kind of conversation. At four!

I love literature, and books. I even like the idea of in-depth analysis of said literature… but I am getting so fed up with Christ figures and repressed sexuality and things being entirely too read into. Why can’t we just enjoy the story. Why can’t we just base judgement on writing style and content? I don’t think it’s necessary to read between every line for more. I really don’t believe that authors intend that. Isn’t it possible that they are just telling a damned story? Isn’t it possible that not every book is about Christ?

Lauraine! Fancy meeting you here :)

Nez - I am, indeed taking a Lit course. And it’s driving me flippin’ nuts. I love the idea of it, but I hate that nothing, seriously NOTHING, can be taken at the value of the words alone. Every.single.word has like 19,000 things that the author was saying, except the literal translation. Of course. It makes me roll my eyes. A lot.

And, you, my friend, were CUTE. I love, LOVE that sailor hat. That picture encompasses all things good.

It’s what we did before the invention of sunscreen - wore a t-shirt and stayed under an umbrella. Am I old, or what?
