1.) School started today. I was over sentimental and nervous but Duncan adored every second of it. I picked him up and asked him what his favorite part was and he said, “The kids! The bus! I didn’t have to wear a seat belt! Snack time! Making art! Playing outside! I LOVE KINDERGARTEN!!!” His voice got progressively more and more excited and loud and I couldn’t help but share his enthusiasm.
2.) I went to the interview for the job that I didn’t want today. And it was lame. Because, hello. I didn’t want the damned job. They asked at the end, Tell us why you want to work here… and I had nothing. I’m pretty sure there were actually crickets chirping in the background. It was one of the more awkward moments in recent memory.
Then I got home and someone from HR called in regard to the job that I did want. And? I am gainfully employed. Hurrah! The person was talking about pro-rated salaries and vacation/sick time, medical, dental and retirement and in my excitement I blurted out, “This is a REAL job.” I, of course, felt like an ass the moment it came out of my mouth, but I was/am giddy. I’ve never had retirement benefits before, yo. I’m pretty sure it only means that I’ll see less of my actual paycheck. But at this point, any paycheck is a good paycheck.
