You know what I hate? Compliments that have some sort qualification attached to them.
“You have the cutest clothes!” I say thank you, because I have learned that agreeing is not the best response to praise. I am not a naturally gracious person. But then they quickly say: “Not the kinds of things I would ever wear, of course, but really cute.”
Really? Because DUDE. Then I want to get snarky, well maybe you should. It might make your ass look a little less enormous. But I don’t. Because I never actually know, if people that do this are being intentionally mean or not.
I have a co-worker that does this on a regular basis. Really, I don’t think she’s clever enough to be doing it intentionally, but it annoys me all the same.

I don’t blame you for being annoyed. I would be too.
But if it bothers you, maybe you should let her know. Or suggest the two of you go shopping together to see how you each pick stuff. It’s crazy to go on letting her annoy you if it is unintentional.

Well, the thing is that she is really not very clever. Today she asked me if Hitler was the one that “did that whole thing with the Holocaust”.
I think it’s insecurity. I’m cuter than her is all. :)
Lot’s of people do it though. And I always wonder how intentional it is.

I wrote this cool response, sent it, and your site went ‘offline’ for a few minutes… it vanished into cyberspace… The post was…something about her compensating, you being cool knowing she’s a ‘dim bulb’, my loving the word snarky, but hating people that ARE snarky,… if she WAS being nasty, that you’d go visit the scratching post first and then: RRREEEEARRRRRNR HISSSSSSSSS!! (GAME ON!!) ==== ‘evaporating messages’…I F-ing HATE when that happens!!!
