This morning at work, right as I was about to start interviewing potential new staff, I ran to the bathroom. As I was washing my hands and checking myself out, as you do, I noticed… wait. What? I wasn’t wearing any makeup.

I forgot to put makeup on.

I’d done everything else… Fixed my hair (Well. This is relative. My hair is wild, I’ve accepted it. I fixed it as much as I normally do). I’d gotten dressed, I’d eaten breakfast, I’d put shoes on. I was even wearing underwear for fucks sake. But makeup? No, not so much. At all.

I have a good relationship with makeup. I LOVE makeup. I love that I can look completely different on any given day, depending on my mood. I like that I can choose to wear none at all. And, I often do. Usually I wear at least mascara to work, but all the same. It’s the choosing that makes it fun.

But today, I didn’t CHOOSE to not wear any. I just fucking forgot. Upon this realization I was suddenly wildly uncomfortable. All throughout the interviews I kept wondering how these people could possibly be taking me seriously as a professional. I felt like I looked about 12. I felt unprepared.

It was like that naked feeling you get when you leave the house and realize that you’ve forgotten your phone at home. Only worse.
