We got Sea Monkey’s in April. First, they are still alive. That in itself kind of amazes me as every other attempt has failed miserably.

At first I was enamored with the idea of little freeze dried shrimp coming to life under our watchful care. But now? They are disgusting. They zip around their little scummy container amongst the dead corpses of the previous generation. And they have sex. A LOT of sex. Wild Sea Monkey Sex. They copulate for days at a time, stuck together and swimming vigorously all the while. It’s exhausting to watch. It’s disturbing to watch. It’s raised more questions about sex from the Kid than I would have ever cared to discuss while he’s still in Primary school.

Seriously. Discussing reproductive habits of two willing participants, be animal or human, is one thing. But, let’s just go ahead and throw in Sea monkeys that swing into the discussion and it gets far more interesting really quickly.

Yep. That’s right. That’s three Sea Monkey’s having a private tryst right there on my dining room table. The one on the top, that’s a female, we can tell because she’s got a sac of Sea Monkey babies attached to her midsection. The other two are males, this can be told by their big white mustaches, as well as the noticeable lack of baby bags.

Bisexual Sea Monkeys. Fun.

All the novelty has worn off. Completely.
