It was about a group of friends from college that never told each other off.  There was an especially nasty woman,  and they all just let her be horrible to them.

 She’s got a firm grasp on the ridiculous,  which I quite like in a book.

I think that the author is trying too hard.  Too hard to be funny,  too hard to be cool, to hard to be liked.
