This is one of those books that will stay with me, it won’t be easy to forget. But it won’t be happy and easy to think about, either.
Gertie, she struggled so much. And it ended with her complete lack of hope, the ultimate betrayal of herself and her craft, and basically everything she stood for. But it was what she felt she needed to do, to support her family in a place that she hated, a place where she lost two of her children and her respect of her husband.
She tried her best to be the good wife and she loved her kids.
Haunting, seriously, I’m not sure what else to say about this story.
It was good, but terrible, all at the same time.
