This book was all over the place a few years ago. Womens book clubs, magazines, etc. I avoided it because of the press. Good publicity, although I might not hear about a book, otherwise, is usually a turn-off for me, rather than what I’m sure it’s meant to be, a hook.

I was at the library, looking for more Anita Shreve books, and I saw this one laying on top of a shelf. I picked it up, brought it home. I loved it, much more than I thought I would. I kind of expected to roll my eyes a lot, but I didn’t. At all.

I loved how the story parallelled a bible story. I loved the idea of the red tent, and the significance of the female relationships within. How important the mother/daughter bond was in the story. As well as the interesting aspect of an epic novel set in biblical times.

It was very good.
